Content and education empower athletes off the field
Athletes are becoming more and more relevant in a constant-changing environment. Particularly in the digital landscape, football players have significantly increased and leveraged the attention and engagement that their influence brings. To the detriment of traditional mass media outlets, individual athletes represent an empowered source of content creation and news diffusion.
Antoine Griezmann, together with Gerard Piqué’s company Kosmos Group, launched a documentary under the name of “The Decision”. In this short film, Griezmann explained his decision to leave Atlético de Madrid in favour of FC Barcelona.
In the field of education, players are embracing and looking with curious eyes the possibility of contributing to their respective stakeholders beyond the pitch, as well as managing their image in a more effective way in order to leave a deeper footprint on fans, brands and media. Education not only crafts a future path to leverage lessons from a sports career but helps them make the most from their journey in football.
In an interview with SBI alumni ‘Rocky’ Rodríguez, Portland Thorns FC and Costa Rica women’s national team player, Rodríguez recalled that studying the online course in Football Marketing & Management not only helped her to add professional value to her skill set but to help and support her teammates at a higher scale too. A future investment with a positive impact on their everyday athlete careers.
Regarding the education and development of athletes’ skills and knowledge in the sports business field, SBI Barcelona is proud to have counted with numerous emblematic and promising football players, especially counting with a particular interest from those in the women’s game. To date, more than 100 athletes have enrolled to SBI’s certificates.
Some of the players that have recently trusted SBI are Wes Morgan (Leicester City FC), Nathaniel Chalobah (Watford FC), Troy Deeney (Watford FC), Alex Greenwood (Olympique Lyon), Daniëlle van de Donk (Arsenal FC), Tahith Chong (Manchester United) and Marta Cardona (Real Sociedad), among many others.
