The second-leg of the UEFA Champions League and Europa League semi-finals will be played out this week with Real Madrid, Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Olympique Marseille holding the slight upper-hand in the their respective matches.
That said, if we have learned anything from this year’s European competitions is that no result is safe until the referee blows the final whistle.
Our content team at SBI has prepared infographics to compare the matches from an economic standpoint taking into account the following indicators:
- Squad Market Value
- Broadcasting Revenue
- Matchday Revenue
- Club Shirt Sponsors & Annual Value
- Total Revenue for 2017
Real Madrid vs. Bayern Munich
For Real Madrid this is the eighth consecutive semi-final of the Champions League and if they can secure a win in their match against FC Bayern they will earn another trip to the final aiming to conquer their third consecutive UCL under Zinedine Zidane’s leadership.
Looking at the economic figures between both clubs we can see that Real Madrid clearly dominates in most categories. As we can see in the infographic below, Los Blancos generated 86.8 M Euros more in total revenue than the Bavarians.
According to transfermarkt.com there is a difference of 183.5 M Euros in the estimated squad market value between both clubs with Cristiano Ronaldo being the most expensive player valued at 120 M Euros.
AS Roma vs. Liverpool FC
AS Roma will need yet another miracle at the Stadio Olimpico if they are to have any chance of eliminating Liverpool and the red-hot Mohamed Salah, currently valued at 80 M Euros by transfermarkt.com
Liverpool have a massive advantage when it comes to the business numbers with a gap of over 250 M Euros in total revenue between both clubs.
For the Italians it has already been a fantastic run and their performance this season on the pitch will surely be compensated from an economic standpoint next season.
Atletico Madrid vs. Arsenal
This Europa League match-up could have been a Champions League duel any other season. Although Atletico have a slight advantage having scored an away goal at the Emirates this tie is still very much up for grabs.
From a financial standpoint Arsenal clearly dominate in most categories, most notably in total revenue. The difference in revenue between the Gunners and the Colcoheros is of 215.1 M Euros.
These economic snapshots serve as an indicator to evaluate the performance of the clubs from a business standpoint. Nevertheless, as we have seen many times before, anything can happen on the pitch!
