“Really good for those looking to get a job in football”
Ruth Corry completed the Online Master in Football Business & Management last year at SBI.
As the Academy Secretary at Charlton Athletic FC, she was looking for a program that allowed her to study in parallel with her professional commitments and provided her opportunities to network and acquire the formal skills and knowledge to prepare her for a leadership position in the football industry.
We caught up with Ruth during our two-day Corporate Football Tour and Graduation Ceremony in Barcelona. Below is a testimonial on her learning experience at SBI.
What are your impressions after taking the program?
It has been really good nine months for me, a very insightful program into different areas of football, which I do not necessarily come across in my day to day job. Really interesting range of speakers with different topics throughout the lectures. It has been great to meet everyone, especially in Barcelona at the graduation ceremony. They have different background from various countries, that has been a plus as well.
What do you think about the guest speakers?
They have been fantastic, a complete range of lecturers who accumulate different experiences within many topics in the sports business industry. Great people to have connected and learnt from in each session of the online program.
Was it important to be an online course?
Online learning was the main reason I wanted to take the course, fitting in around my job at Charlton Athletic was quite important for me. In my case, it was easier to study from home rather than travelling to attend somewhere. It went really well, the program is very good, easy to follow and to interact with everyone, both classmates and guest speakers. It was definitely one of the main factors in choosing the course.
How was the interaction with your classmates?
I found it a very enriching part of the program as well. Meeting and learning from people from different backgrounds and cultures was very interesting. Some of them already worked in football and others were seeking to find opportunities in sports business. Everyone shared really good feedback based on their experiences and best practices. Everyone has been really fantastic and it was great meeting them in Barcelona.
Would you recommend this course?
I would definitely recommend it. In my case, currently working in the football industry, it is very good to learn about areas I do not necessarily do in my day to day. It is also very valuable for those seeking to get a job in football, you learn loads. Easy, from home or from the office. Yes, definitely, 100% recommend it.
The Online Master in Football Business & Management starts on October 21, 2019. You can learn more about the program here.
