Super Bowl LIII - An Economic Snapshot

Share

The Super Bowl is one of the most watched annual sporting events. Although the viewership is predominantly domestic, the truth is that the NFL's most important game is growing in popularity at a worldwide level. In fact, the only other event that attracts more viewers on a yearly basis is the UEFA Champions League Final.

As a result of this massive exposure the Super Bowl is big business. It is reported that the average cost of a 30-second spot on TV is worth approximately $5.2 million. In additon to advertising revenue the high demand for tickets make it one of the most coveted sporting events in the world with the average second-hand ticket price is reportedly valued at nearly $4,000.

The infographic below looks at some of the business numbers behind Super Bowl LIII. The New England Patriots will face the LA Rams in Atlanta, but looking at these figures it is evident that the big winner is the National Football League.
