The World Cup in Russia has attracted the attention of football fans from across the globe. There have been numerous upsets and now only eight national teams remain in the quest to lift the trophy.
As we approach the quarterfinals of the tournament, our research team at SBI has put together infographics that compare the various match-ups from an economic standpoint. We have analyzed factors such as the squad market value, the most valuable players on each side, as well as looking at the main sponsors, FIFA world ranking and the percentage of players that play outside of their domestic competition.
Uruguay vs. France
It is worthy to note that the valuation of the French squad is nearly three times higher than that of Uruguay. Another interesting takeaway is the percentage of players that play their club football outside of their country. In the case of Uruguay it is 91.3%, a fact that is well-known as Uruguay has traditionally been known for being a football exporting nation. Most of their squad players play in Europe.
Brazil vs. Belgium
This is one of the most anticipated matches of this World Cup. On the one hand Brazil has high hopes of conquering the "Hexa" (meaning their sixth World Cup title) led by Neymar Jr. On the other hand, the Belgian team is full of potential with a superstar line-up consisting of stars such as De Bruyne, Lukaku and Hazard. The question remains whether Spanish manager Roberto Martinez can lead this team to glory.
It is a battle between the number two and three ranked national teams by FIFA and promises to be a fantastic match up. Interestingly the salary of Roberto Martinez is more than three times lower than that of Brazil's Tite. Both clubs have the lion-share of their players playing internationally in the top leagues across Europe.
